Introduction to Drawing
Class is starting late due to illness and then the NOLA snowstorm. 2 make up dates to be scheduled at a later date.
Description:
In this course, we’ll cover many foundational principles and techniques to gain a firm grounding in the art of Drawing. Students will study master works and do a series of different exercises aimed at understanding gesture, structure, basic forms, and simplification. We will learn comparative measurement, plumb lines, block-ins, terminator lines and maybe even get into form turning a.k.a. rendering. The juicy fun stuff. There will be class discussions, demos, and personalized critiques.

18” x 24” Strathmore Sketchbook (Do NOT use Newsprint)
6B, 2B, B & 2H Graphite Pencils (Any Brand)
Kneaded Eraser
Measuring Stick (shish kebab skewer is fine)
X-Acto Knife for sharpening
Supplies not included in kit:
150 Grit Piece of Sandpaper
Plumb Line (Appx 3’ String with weight attached to one end)
18" x 24" Drawing Board (or similar rigid support) (Classrooms have boards to use during class)
Jonathan's themes often reflect the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity, perhaps best illustrated by his paintings of Hurricane Katrina that devastated his hometown of New Orleans. He believes not only in the power of art, but its ability to move people.
