All Levels Life Drawing in Charcoal, Pastel or Graphite
Instructor: Carol Peebles
Course Title: Classical Realist Drawing: Portrait and Figure
Description:
Learn to capture a likeness in a portrait or figure through this course taught in the Classical Realist Tradition.
What You'll Learn:
- Begin with 20-minute gesture poses, progressing to 1-3 hour poses.
- Techniques for drawing from life, utilizing limited time with your subject.
- Application of observational drawing techniques to still life, landscapes, and pets, emphasizing the importance of gesture.
- Instruction includes:
- Figures, portraits, hands, feet
- Skeleton and muscles
- Basic shading and measuring techniques
Media: Work in charcoal, graphite, or pastel.
Additional Information:
- Models will be nude; students must be at least 18 years of age.
- Suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced students.
Supplies:
Pastels:
- Small basic Nupastel or Cretacolor Hard Pastel Set.
- One or two pastel pencils, any color, any brand.
Charcoal (if preferred):
- Vine charcoal
- Charcoal pencils
Paper:
- Any paper you already have.
- If purchasing, choose a pad of pastel paper (preferably with a variety of colors). No need for expensive paper; choose a sale option as we will use lots of paper.
Sketchbook:
- 11" x 14" sketchbook (Strathmore hardbound preferred, but any will suffice).
Other Supplies:
- Pen or pencil for taking notes
- Two large bulldog clips
- Kneaded eraser
Note: Supplies will be reviewed on the first day. Bring at least a selection of the materials listed to start.
