Advanced Painting Techniques and Perceptual Growth

Prerequisites:

Intro Painting and Intro to Drawing or equivalent experience.

Description:
Strengthen your painting and perceptual skills through targeted exercises and challenges in this advanced painting course. Each week, students will be assigned "painting challenges" designed to develop their abilities in areas such as:

Color
Composition and design
Paint application

Exercises are tailored to individual needs, offering opportunities to practice familiar skills and explore new techniques outside of your comfort zone.

Course Features:

Group critiques to identify and enhance the unique qualities of your work.
Suitable for painters with prior experience and a grasp of fundamentals seeking to advance their skills.
Acrylic and oil painters are welcome. Demonstrations will be provided in both mediums.

Suggested Materials:

Paints:
Bring a full palette of colors you already have on hand. Suggested palette for demonstrations:

Cadmium Yellow Light or Lemon Yellow (37ml)
Yellow Ochre (37ml)
Quinacridone Red (37ml)
Ultramarine Blue (37ml)
Cerulean Blue Hue (37ml)
Burnt Sienna (37ml)
Raw Umber (37ml)
Titanium White (150ml)

Brushes:

Assortment of Filberts, Flats, and/or Rounds: #2, #4, #8, #12, #20
Larger house painting brushes

Solvent/Medium (for oil painters):

Refined Linseed Oil (small bottle, 8oz)
Gamsol, Terpenoid, or other odorless oil painting solvent

Painting Surfaces:

Canvas pad, mixed media sketchbook, or scrap substrate for small studies
Sketchbook for notes/sketching
Various painting surfaces; size and type determined by the student

Suggested Sizes:

8" x 10", 9" x 12", 11" x 14"
