Exploration in Watercolor - Sean Friloux
In this class we will discuss an introduction to forms, shapes, edges and tonal ranges to create the illusion of depth and light in a watercolor painting.
After practicing the process we will put them together to create emotional, impactful paintings or studies using a choice of subjects ranging from a rural landscape, to a street scene.
This class focuses on giving students a thoughtful approach to the medium of watercolor through working from reference photographs and/or painting from sketches.
It will include discussions on:
1. watercolor materials
2. color mixing
3. Drawing
4. brush strokes and basic washes and painting methods in watercolor (wet into wet, dry brush and glazing)
5. composition and design
*Classes will include instructor demonstrations and exercises. There will also be optional weekly homework exercises.
Supplies:
Holbein palette or equivalent
Selection of brushes: including
a round brush (for example 8)
a mop brush
1' and 2’ mottler wash brushes
a rigger brush (for example 4)

Sean Friloux lives and works in New Orleans and is accomplished in watercolor, graphite drawings and acrylic. His work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine and Watercolor Artist Magazine.
