Description:
This class focuses on giving students a deeper understanding of the medium through working from still life setups, reference photographs and/or painting in a series. It will include discussions on:
• watercolor materials
• color mixing and paint properties specific to watercolors
• brush strokes and basic washes (flat wash, graded wash, wet into wet wash, etc) and painting methods in watercolor (direct, wet into wet, dry brush and glazing)
• composition and design
Classes will include instructor demonstrations and exercises on a variety of subjects. There will also be optional weekly homework assignments that will be discussed at the beginning of each class.
Supplies:
Robert Wood palette or equivalent
Selection of brushes including a variety of rounds (for example 6, 8, 10), a mop brush, 1' and 2’ flat wash brushes

Patti Adams is a professional artist and musician who has lived and worked in New Orleans since 1982. Her work is defined by her wide-ranging interests in calligraphy, gilding, painting in watercolor and oils, book illustration, and color theory.
