Description:
In this class, students will create large-scale expressive paintings of a floral still-life, using either oils or acrylic paints.

What You’ll Learn:

Blocking-In: Roughly blocking-in compositions to establish form and structure.
Depth and Volume: Using value to create a sense of depth and volume in your work.
Rendering and Refining: Completing compositions with attention to detail and balance.
Working from Observation:
- Begin directly from observation.
- Learn to take reference images to complete paintings.
Understanding Composition: Analyze master works to understand composition and explore a variety of techniques.
Color Studies:
- Study the effects of light on color.
- Use contrast and complementary colors to capture the rich colors of nature.

Class Activities:

Bring your own flowers to create personalized still-life setups.
On the first day, take reference photos and start painting directly from observation.

Prerequisite:
Some painting experience is helpful, but beginning painters are welcome.

Rebecca Madura

Rebecca earned Bachelor Degrees from University of Texas at Austin in both Fine Arts and Liberal Arts as well as a post-graduate certificate in Non-Profit Management. She has a Master of Liberal Arts from Tulane University.
