Beginning Abstract Sculpture

Abstract Sculpture Course

Description:
Learn to express yourself through form in our Abstract Sculpture course, where we explore the concepts behind non-functional, non-representational, "abstract" ceramics.

Students will create freestanding, handmade pieces using various sculptural techniques, including:

Coil building
Pinching
Form molding
Slab construction

Consideration will be given to the elements and principles of art to create contemporary works in-the-round. Each session includes demonstrations and personal feedback to foster a supportive and encouraging environment. At the end of the course, students will take home finished glazed ceramic pieces ready to be displayed and enjoyed.

This class welcomes everyone, from those with ceramics experience to complete beginners. Come join the fun and get your hands dirty!

Learning Objectives:

Analyze and discuss elements and principles of design as related to three-dimensional form.
Utilize various hand-building techniques to develop three-dimensional ceramic works.
Develop an understanding of historical and cultural influences on abstract sculptural works.
Gain knowledge of the individual artists’ works discussed in class.

Supplies:

There is a $75 materials fee, which includes clay, tools, and glazes.
