Abstract Sculpture: Exploring Non-Representational Ceramics

Description:
Learn to express yourself through form in this Abstract Sculpture course. Students will explore the concepts behind non-functional, non-representational ceramics, creating freestanding, handmade pieces using techniques such as:

  • Coil building
  • Pinching
  • Form molding
  • Slab construction

Emphasis will be placed on the elements and principles of art while crafting contemporary works in-the-round.

Class Features:

  • Weekly demonstrations and personal feedback in a supportive, encouraging environment.
  • Suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced ceramicists.

At the end of the course, students will take home finished glazed ceramic pieces ready for display.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze and discuss the elements and principles of design related to 3-dimensional form.
  • Utilize various hand-building techniques in creating ceramic works.
  • Develop knowledge of historical and cultural influences on abstract sculpture.
  • Gain insight into individual artists’ works discussed in class.
