Description:
Each student will build on their basic instruction to further develop their personal expression and explore the process of abstract art.

The Course Will Include:

Working intuitively to find your natural "mark"
Using photos, blind contour drawing, and spontaneous line drawings as inspiration
Working in a series and from observations
Investigating composition using the formal elements and principles of design
Practical demonstrations to reinforce techniques

White (16.8 oz Abstract Sennelier brand)

Staedtler 8B pencil
Liquitex Matte or Gloss Medium - 8 oz
Palette Paper: 16" x 20" or 18" x 24"
Palette Knife: RGN brand (choose either 109, 106, or 98)
Brushes:
- Princeton Select #12 round (1)
- 1” flat wash (2)
- 1½” bristle bright (1)
- Additional brushes of your choice
Paper Towels: 1 roll
Water Bucket: About ½-gallon-sized
Masking Tape
Push Pins: Handful
Pencil Sharpener

Surfaces:

No need to bring supports to your first class.
Large sheets of index paper are available for purchase at $1 per sheet, suitable for early exercises.
