Creative Courage: Developing Your Artistic Practice

Description:
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” --ANAÏS NIN

In this course, students will explore and develop their individual creative practices through two main components:

  1. The Artist's Way Exercises:
    • The first hour of each class will be dedicated to working through the exercises in The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, a twelve-week program aimed at identifying roadblocks to creativity and fostering a fulfilling, creative life.
  2. Individualized Exploration:
    • The remaining class time will focus on guided exploration of creative writing, drawing, or both, depending on the student’s choice.
    • In the second half of the semester, students will commit to completing a larger project of their own choice, such as:
      • A short story
      • A collection of poems
      • A series of drawings
      • A larger work in dry media

This course is suitable for all skill levels; no prior drawing or creative writing experience is required.
