Beyond Observational Painting
Workshop: Synthesis of Representational and Abstract Painting
Description:
In this workshop, participants will focus on painting from observation, memory, imagination, and photographic reference, both figuratively and abstractly.
What You’ll Do:
- Work with traditional subject matter in various ways to explore the language of painting and create original compositions.
- Study the works of historical and contemporary master painters to synthesize representational and abstract painting into your own practice.
- Explore methods and conceptual approaches for composing a painting from multiple sources and ideas.
- Consider the formal concepts of painting, including:
- Spatial relationships
- Form
- Light/value
- Color
Prerequisites:
- Participants may work in either oil or acrylic, depending on preference and comfort with the media.
- Some painting experience in oils or acrylics is recommended.
Instructor:
Rebecca Madura
Rebecca earned Bachelor Degrees from University of Texas at Austin in both Fine Arts and Liberal Arts as well as a post-graduate certificate in Non-Profit Management. She has a Master of Liberal Arts from Tulane University.
