An Evening at the Academy
The Board of Directors hosted “An Evening at the Academy” celebrating the arts and to launch a new initiative, The Academy on Wheels. The Academy on Wheels will be a uniquely equipped bus, large enough to accommodateup to 8-10 students and an instructor. The bus will be capable of offering multiple areas of focus in the arts– painting, printmaking, watercolor, drawing, ceramics.
The Academy’s vision is to build its relationship with local youth arts organizations like Kids Smart, YAM, YAYA and others to work with the students identified at area charter middle and high schools who excel in the arts and would benefit from the artistic rigor available through the program. The Academy on Wheels will offer programs to 8-10 students at three to four schools per semester. The hope is to support up to 100 students per year eventually. Thanks to philanthropic support from the community, all supplies and expenses for the program will be provided by The New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts.
