Class Description:
In this six-week class, we will explore the fundamental principles of color theory—the science and art of using color. You will:

  • Create your own color wheel.
  • Explore color values.
  • Gain a better understanding of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors through in-class exercises and homework assignments.

Demonstrations will be conducted using a variety of mediums, but the primary medium for this class is gouache.

Prerequisite: None

Supplies:

  • A supply kit containing gouache paints, pencil, eraser, brush, and a Bristol pad will be available for purchase at checkout and can be picked up on the first day of class ($150)

  • Additional Supplies to Bring:
    • Scissors
    • Ruler
    • Glass or plastic containers for rinsing brushes (e.g., glass jar or plastic cup)
    • White plastic or ceramic dinner plate to use as a palette (gouache can stain, so bring an old one)
    • Paper towels
    • Notebook and pen
    • Drafting or masking tape
    • Additional small brushes (recommendations will be provided during the first class)
