Instructor: Phoebe Grace
Students will understand basic principles and techniques in art making, including drawing basics (perspective, light, and shadow), painting in acrylic, watercolor, and gouache, with hands-on sculptural and whimsical projects including polymer clays and papier-mâché. Students will be able to articulate proper artistic terms and participate in creating individual pieces of art. The program begins with art basics and elaborates on principles through demonstration and applications, incorporating art making with art appreciation and art history.
This class introduces the fun of art, its application, and techniques. The instruction is infused with wit and imagination, bringing a “no art snobs” environment while communicating terminology, secrets of techniques, and effective art instruction for all ages. Students begin with the first fundamental tool of art—a sketchbook that they design the cover of with a variety of paints, notions, and applications. The sky's the limit with this initial project that brings scholars a perspective of their own creativity and talent.
Supplies: All supplies needed for this course will be available when students arrive for their first class.
Phoebe is a sculpture and mixed media artist new to the New Orleans area. She is excited to continue teaching, learning, and creating with others at NOAFA.
