Abstract Nature: A New Class and Exhibition Experience at the Academy
Description: Through this 13-week class, students will study the work of the greatest abstract artists of all time while creating their own work to be exhibited in a major exhibition at the Academy in the spring! Students will use the work of famed artist Will Henry Stevens, a teacher of artists such as Joseph Albers, to explore the line between nature, naturalism, abstraction, and art. How does an artist find resonance in pure form and the naturalistic depiction of nature?
Students will create multiple works that will be exhibited alongside the work of Will Henry Stevens in a spring exhibition at the Academy. This is an exciting and special opportunity for all those involved. Through lectures, museum visits, and deep studio exploration and creation, this experience is designed for all artists and aspiring artists to better understand the process of creation itself.
Open to artists of all levels.

The Executive Director of the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, Andrew Rodgers, is an arts administrator, arts educator, and artist. He sits on the New Orleans Arts Council and is a passionate champion of the arts who has worked with arts institutions throughout the Gulf Coast to improve the lives of people through the arts.
