"Artist as Teacher: Will Henry Stevens" Exhibition Opening
The New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts is excited to partner with the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and Blue Spiral Gallery in Ashville North Carolina to bring Artist as Teacher: Will Henry Stevens to life. Through this exhibition, students at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts were given the opportunity to be inspired by original works by the master abstract naturalist, Will Henry Stevens, as they created pieces in oil on raw canvas. Through discussion, lecture, and studio production, students created a body of work that was inspired by the work of Will Henry Stevens and Executive Director and Instructor at NOAFA, Andrew J. Rodgers, but ultimately each student took their own path and developed their own voice in their work. The result is an exhibtion like no other, espousing naturalistic tendencies as well as purist abstraction in the color fields that move through the large unprimed canvases.
This exhibition is on view from January 11th through January 25th with an opening on Saturday January 11th. We invite you to join us in celebrating this body of work and the students who created it.
