Join us at the Academy to explore a new series of work by beloved local artist and Academy Board Member, Susu Kearney. A departure from her past work, with this show, Kearney has created a garden of floral ceramics that seem frozen in a spring breeze.
Kearney's love for visual arts began while a student at Country Day School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received a BBA in Marketing from Southern Methodist University and continued her artistic journey attending classes here at The Academy and at workshops throughout the United States. Her varied artistic interests led to commissions of all sorts, from paintings to costumes to sculptures. She has been the costume designer for the REX School of Design and taught Visual Arts as a member of the Fine Arts Faculty at Trinity Episcopal School. She has been a participant on several discussion panels, including Costume Design at the Presbytere, Tulane School of Professional Advancement, and Art in Bloom for the New Orleans Museum of Art. Recently, she was invited to teach a master class in Costume Design at NOCCA.
The art of Susu Kearney spans a breadth of media, including oils, acrylics, gouache, graphite, ink, ceramics, paper maché, and textiles. “Until recently, my favorite media to work with was two dimensional … painting, and drawing. While teaching, I was introduced to clay and began exploring and thinking in the third dimension… and now that is my main focus.”
We hope to see you at The Academy to recognize her latest collection of stunning artworks: "A Spring Garnden." The exhibiton's opening reception will take place at our Uptown campus (5256 Magazine Street) on Saturday, April 5, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Drinks, light snacks, and refreshments to be provided.
